Bike Helmet drive!

By: Kate Tyler – US Booking Coordinator and Tour Consultant

While taking a break from our daily grind yesterday to take in the gorgeous summer Truckee weather and discuss inspiration, April asked me what inspired me – for new tour ideas, giving back, learning, growing.
The answer came quickly and simply: helmets.

Amidst the fray of buses, cars, trucks and motorbikes vying for road space in Siem Reap, Cambodia are bicyclists. Small school children in uniforms, old men peddling methodically to and from work and teens anxious to meet up with friends, the bicycle is a common choice for transportation.

Yet most Cambodians do not have or cannot afford the most basic safety tool in a cyclist’s arsenal – a helmet.
So it begins. Our US office September community project is a Bike Helmet Drive! We’re requesting donations of new or used bike helmets or monetary donations to cover the shipping costs to have them sent to Cambodia. I will be looking for local cycle shops with which to partner so keep your eye on the blog as there is more to come!
If you have any questions or if you would like to make a donation to this project, please contact me at kate@journeys-within.com
