AHA Restaurant Review

By: Kathryn Rose Dinner at AHA is a great experience. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is relaxed yet trendy, and the wine list can’t be beat. AHA is just off of Pub St, on the end of The Passage. The menu is quite limited, but there is something there for pretty much everyone. They have small plates, which is a set of three tasting dishes of mostly Khmer food. I suggest the cheese plate […] View full post »

Laos Summer Special!

I’ve often heard guests say that they just “want to get away from it all”. When guests say this to me the first place I think of is Luang Prabang, Laos. I am not shy to admit that Luang Prabang is my favorite location in Southeast Asia. It’s a small, quiet town with incredible charm and the perfect place to slow down and just relax. So, in putting together a summer special we thought it […] View full post »

Getting a haircut in Siem Reap: Easier than you may think

By: Kathryn Rose Getting a haircut in Cambodia can be a scary thought. There are salons all over the place, with plastic chairs and less than clean tools sitting around. You can even get your hair cut in an open stall at Old Market for just a dollar or two. However, I love my hair and the local option just wasn’t an option at all for me. Then, thankfully, someone told me about a new […] View full post »

Cambodian Landmine Museum

By Kathryn Rose The Cambodian Landmine Museum is not exactly the most fun place to spend 40 minutes, but it is certainly eye opening and very informative. The museum is pretty far out in the Angkor temple complex, but if you are going to Banteay Srey or any other temples out that direction it is definitely worth a stop. Aki Ra originally started the museum out of his house, and it was just filled with […] View full post »

Senteurs d’ Angkor Workshop

By: Kathryn Rose Senteurs d’ Angkor is a great little workshop right down the road from Journeys Within, and they are making some amazing soaps, lotions, oils and even spice blends. All of the boxes that products come in are handmade, many of them on-site. The soaps and spice blends are made there, and some of the ingredients are right outside in their garden.   The free tour of the workshop is interesting, but quite […] View full post »

Journeys Within in the LA Times

Seven years ago the LA Times contacted me about a press release I had sent out about a new tour we were running. They interviewed me and we chatted about Cambodia and Southeast Asia and our life here. As you can imagine, I was beyond excited! Then they did the background check and the next email I got was that they wouldn’t be able to feature us because we were, “too new a company” […] View full post »

A day on the Tonle Sap

By: Kathryn Rose Working for a hotel and tour company sure has some great perks. I have gotten to do some pretty amazing things in the short time I have been here, and many thanks to Brandon and Andrea for making most of them happen. One of my most favorite days in Cambodia so far has been our kayaking adventure on the Tonle Sap. The day started with a 40 min drive out to the […] View full post »
