Ready, Set, Oh No!

Callie woke up on Sunday saying she was itchy. Strange since mosqitos haven’t been bad, but not that unusual. Then she got itchier…there were no mosquitos, we looked again, yup, chicken pox. The day before our family vacation was to begin and she had chicken pox! I frantically wrote my nurse friend (thank you Ellie) between the tears while doing searches on chicken pox… “chicken pox on vacation”, “chicken pox and swimming”, “chicken pox and […] View full post »

It’s been a busy week and we have a lot of diversity…from bears up trees, to traditional weddings, to a helmet obsession. Here’s our week in photos: Philippa Nigg/Tour Consultant/Truckee, CA Philippa says, “We went skiing today and look what we saw up a tree. It’s a bear! There are three of them up there, we think they were waiting for everyone to go home before they came down.” img000651-2 Phaeng Phommally/Tour Manager/Luang Prabang, Laos Phaeng […] View full post »

Counting the days

Everyone thinks that because we work in travel we actually get to travel all the time….and we do, but usually this travel consists of meeting and training guides, arranging new tours, trying new restaurants and I have had the ‘how-many-times-can-I-be-shown-a-safety-box-and-minifridge-in-one-day’ moments. This month though we are going on a family trip which means limited hotel inspections, no guide meetings and *no* computer (I think, though I get a bit light-in-the-head just typing that, welcome to […] View full post »

KFC = Kentucky Fried Cambodia!?

dscn0706 The colonel has come to Cambodia. That’s right, you can see Angkor Wat in the morning and have a KFC Zinger Burger with a side of fries in the afternoon. I’m not sure how I do or should feel about KFC being here. The truth is I’m mixed. When we first moved here there wasn’t even a mini-mart, let alone fast food options and I liked that we really were living in a very basic […] View full post »

Voluntourism, for people who want a Vacation.

I’m not great with small talk – so here’s the point… You don’t have to spend your whole vacation volunteering to make a difference. Period. You don’t need to feel guilty enjoying a relaxing day at the spa, visiting the temples for hours on end, or even sipping Thai Iced Tea by the pool. There are so many wonderful ways to make a difference within the countries you are visiting, and it doesn’t have to […] View full post »

Sawasdee from our new Bangkok Director, Jeab

Dear Andrea and April,   I am a bit shy to call myself Director,Thailand. I have attached some new photos for the staff photo album or for the management team photo. Toothpaste Asia Style

Brandon and I went to Lucky Market today to pick up some groceries, including toothpaste. We were going to go with good-old Colgate Whitening because that’s what we always get when this little gem caught our eye… dentist-like It may be hard to read, but what it says is, “New! With a “Dentist-Like”*** Ingredient For Smooth and Polished Teeth. ” Ummm, what the hell is a Dentist-Like Ingredient? Brandon wondered if there was a cleaner pick […] View full post »
